We are looking for guardian homes to place 2 brown female F1 generation labradoodle puppies in the late Summer of 2012. We will be breeding our only labrador retriever, Lucy Lou to a brown standard poodle, and retain two of their puppies for our breeding program. Please contact us if you are interested.
We are looking for guardian homes!!! It is a kind of 'dog-sharing' arrangement where we will retain ownership of the dog for a period of years, usually 2-5, during which the dog lives with the guardians as their family pet. She will come to our house for breeding, and to have puppies, but other than that she will live with her guardians. We will pay for all expenses related to breeding, the guardians pay only for expenses related to daily upkeep. This program will allow our puppy to live her life as a pampered pet, and allows us to have genetic diversity in our breeding program, that would otherwise be very limited by the number of dogs we are able to care for well at home. At the end of the contract period, we will pay to have the dog neutered and ownership will be transferred to the guardians. Basically, the family that will become guardians earns a Labradoodle/Labrador Retriever or Standard Poodle through sweat equity.
We will be VERY selective about the families we will chose to work with. Among other things, families must agree to live within 100 miles of Pueblo West, CO and have a fully fenced yard for the duration of the contract.
How to qualify as a guardian:
- Be willing to feed what we feed our dogs and follow our recommendations for the dog's basic health care and veterinarian care, such as vaccine schedules, the use of certain medications, etc. and emergency care as needed.
- Preferably, the primary caregiver only works part-time out side the home so the dog won't be left home alone for long periods of time.
- No other intact dogs (not neutered or spayed) should ever be on the premises to prevent unwanted mating.
- You must live within 100 miles of Pueblo West, CO. No anticipated job transfers that remove the dog beyond this 100 miles of Pueblo West, CO until the dog is five to six years old or spayed or neutered or both parties agree in writing.
- You must be willing to enforce basic obedience either through formal class training or training at home.
- You must have a physical fence or an Invisible Fence.
- You must be willing to openly communicate with Colorado Mountain Labradoodles about any matter related to the dog and allow me to visit your home and be able to visit my home so the dog stays familiar with us (Very important so the dog will be comfortable breeding).
- You must provide a copy of all medical records within 1 week of receiving medical care or routine visits.
- You must provide updated pictures and info at least every 3 months so we can keep our website up to date.
- Understand and agree that the dog will breed at our home/stud's home and will give birth at our home. Females will be with us for about 8-9 weeks after giving birth and then will be returned to you. This will not be more than once per year unless otherwise agreed on by both parties. At six years of age or sooner, the dog will be spayed or neutered and will then stay with you in their forever home. The lifespan of these dogs is around 15 or more years so you will have many years of enjoying your companion.
- THE MOST IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT IS TO LOVE THIS BUNDLE OF JOY AS A CHERISHED MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY!!!
